Windows 11 : Microsoft Shifts More Settings Away From Control Panel

Microsoft continues to shift additional options out of Control Panel to the Settings app. Microsoft has released a preview version that is part of Windows 11 and repositioned the section that allows you to uninstall Windows Updates to the Settings app, which is now. The latest update has changed the way that Control Panel works, and the control Panel now redirects to Windows Settings when a user attempts to access it from within the Programs and Features section.

The Control Panel has been part of Windows since the beginning. The previous update changed the tech giant’s advanced settings for sharing, including networking discovery and File and Printer Sharing, and public sharing of folders to a new tab within the Settings app, under the Advanced Network Settings.

On Wednesday, Microsoft announced the launch of Windows 11 insider preview builds 22523 Wednesday on The Dev Channel. In its blog post, the company explained the new features of the most recent version. One of the most significant changes is that the hyperlinks to features and programs in the Control Panel are now accessible within the Settings menu > Applications > Installed Applications. The company also announced that it would move uninstalling updates (for cumulative updates, etc.) away from Control Panel to a new page within Settings under settings > Windows Updates and Update History.

Windows 11 build 2223 also comes with minor adjustments. Snap Groups have been made accessible for all insiders using the Alt + Tab menu. Also, File Explorer shows media server options within the toolbar’s menu. The build 22523 is the final update to the Windows Insider Program that will be released in 2021, as stated by Microsoft. The update is available for download in the form of an ISO file on Microsoft’s official site.

In the previous preview build 22509, released on the 1st of December, Microsoft declared that it had moved the settings for advanced sharing (such as network discovery, File and Printer Sharing, and sharing of public folders) to a different page within the Settings app. It is located under Advanced Settings. Additionally, the entries for devices and network settings within the Control Panel started to redirect to the appropriate settings pages.

The update also changed the pages for devices in the Printers and Scanners section under Settings to provide more details regarding the user’s printer and scanner directly within settings when it is available.
