The iPhone 13 isn’t Apple’s newest phone, but it may be a better value. The iPhone 14 has the same cameras, display, CPU, and design as the 13. Our iPhone 14 review has further details.
In our original phone review, we noticed that it didn’t introduce many new features over the iPhone 12, despite a few changes.
On paper, Apple should have called the this the iPhone 12S. The design and specifications are almost the same, and there aren’t many new features.

iPhone 13 Design
If you have an iPhone 12, you won’t notice any change with the iPhone 13. You’ll notice variations if you have an older iPhone or Android smartphone.
The iPhone 12 introduced a flat-edge design. The design is more angular than earlier incarnations, but the phone is still one-handed.
Only the front panel contains Apple’s trademarked Ceramic Shield technology, debuted on last year’s iPhone 12. Apple boasts it’s four times as drop-resistant as prior iPhones, but we wouldn’t try it.

iPhone 13 Display
The phone has a 6.1-inch, 2532×1170-resolution display. The iPhone 13’s Super Retina XDR OLED display is crisp and brilliant, and it can compete with competing smartphones in direct sunlight.
That resolution isn’t the finest we’ve seen, but it’s fine for daily usage, even while viewing video or playing games.
The screen has tiny bezels and a notch at the top. Yes, the phone has a notch, but it’s 20% smaller than the iPhone 12, offering you more screen space.
iPhone 13 Camera
The iPhone 13 camera system doesn’t appear that different from last year’s, but there have been hardware and software advancements.
You get a 12MP wide camera with f/1.6 and a 12MP ultrawide camera with f/2.4 and 120-degree field of view. Without a telephoto lens, this phone isn’t great for long-distance photographs.
This is a great and varied experience when not firing far. The primary camera’s 1.7m pixels (increased from 1.4m on the iPhone 12) improve image quality.
Apple’s Sensor Shift OIS, which debuted with last year’s iPhone 12 Pro Max, delivers the finest image stabilisation we’ve seen on an iPhone, allowing you to obtain crisp images even when the phone isn’t absolutely still.
Battery Life
Apple’s phones have never had good battery life, but the phone improves on prior models.
We don’t know whether Apple raised the iPhone 13’s cell size, but the longer battery life implies it. Before the iPhone 13 introduction, rumours stated Apple might increase battery size.
Apple expects that the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro Max will have the best battery life. The iPhone 12’s battery life has been greatly enhanced.
During our tests, the phone had adequate power for at least two more hours per day.
Purchase it if..
- You own an older iPhone: If you possess an iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 probably isn’t worth the purchase, but if you own an iPhone 8 or iPhone XR, there’s enough to appreciate.
- You need good battery life: iPhone 13’s battery life is better than prior versions’. This iPhone can survive a whole day on a single charge, unlike previous and cheaper versions.
- You wants lots of power: The iPhone 13 is a strong and competent smartphone. If you need power, you won’t need the iPhone 13 Pro.
don’t purchase it If…
- You own an iPhone 12: If you already have an iPhone 12, you probably won’t need the updates. If you need the newest phone, go get it, although changes are minimal.
- You want a small-screen phone: The iPhone 13 mini has identical features as the iPhone 13, so if you have smaller hands or want a smaller smartphone, get it.
- You want an affordable phone: The iPhone 13 is one of this year’s more inexpensive models, but it’s not cheap overall. There are several inexpensive Android phones, or you may choose Apple’s iPhone SE.
